Roberta Iannacito-Provenzano

Roberta Iannacito-Provenzano is Provost and Vice-President, Academic at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), and a full professor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. She holds a PhD in Italian Studies from the University of Toronto. Her research spans southern Italian dialectology, Molisan theatre, plurilingualism, and identity on social media. She has also explored Italian food branding and authenticity in the diaspora. Roberta co-edited Italian Foodways Worldwide (2019) and recently co-edited a special journal issue, Domestic Goods: Silence Speaks in Our Objects, Clothing, Keepsakes, and Interiors (2024), for Italian-Canadiana.

She joined TMU in 2020 as vice-provost, faculty affairs, from York University, where she held progressive leadership roles. An advocate for equity and collegiality, she led initiatives supporting faculty development and fair hiring. She co-chairs TMU’s committees addressing anti-Black racism and Truth and Reconciliation.

A trilingual academic leader, she has served as president of the Canadian Association for Italian Studies and received the 2023 CIBPA Award for Professional Excellence.
